• What is IELTS?
    • IELTS, the International English Language Testing System, is jointly managed by University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations, British Council and IDP:IELTS Australia. The test covers the four language skills - listening, reading, writing and speaking.

  • Which Module should I choose, Academic or General Training?
    • The Academic Module is the best choice if you are planning to use English to study at an undergraduate or postgraduate level.

      The General Training Module is suitable for candidates who are going to English speaking countries to complete their secondary education, to undertake work experience or training programmes not at degree level, or for immigration purposes to Australia, Canada and New Zealand.

      It is the candidate's responsibility to select the test module. If in doubt, contact the organisation you are applying to and ask for its requirements.

  • How do I check whether there are still seats available for the test sessions?
    • You can visit our website or give us a call at +65 64731111 to check availability during office hours. Places are available on a first-come first-served basis.

  • Where is the test venue?
    • You will receive a confirmation email stating the details upon successful registration.

  • When will I receive the Exam details?
    • A notification email will be sent to you about one week before your test day to confirm the test venue and your speaking date. If you do not receive the notification, please contact us +65 64731111 or no later than three days before the test. You can also view and print the information on our online system under the 'My Test' section after login.

  • How can I prepare for the test?
    • You may download sample papers from: or buy the practice material from the British Council.

  • What should I pay attention to on the test day?
    • Late comers are not admitted on the test day. You must arrive at the test venue by 8.45am.

      You must show your confirmation letter and identification (Passport/ NRIC/ Work Permit), You must bring the same form of identification that you indicated on your application form. This is the only form of identity that will be accepted on the test day.

      The only items you can take into the examination room are your identification card, the seat number badge and water in a transparent bottle. Pencils and erasers will be provided. All other personal belongings (including stationery, papers, mobile phones, and personal valuables) must be placed in the designated area outside the examination room.

  • Can I cancel my test after the registration?
    • No. You are not allowed to cancel the test unless on medical grounds or bereavement of next of kin.

      You should inform the British Council Exams Services no later than five weeks before the date of the exam if you want to change the exam date. A transfer fee of S$80.00 (inclusive of GST) is applicable for any change of date.

      You may ask for postponement of test date in writing within 5 working days from date of test if your absence is supported with documented medical evidence.

  • When are test results available?
    • Results are sent out to candidates' residence address on the 13th calendar day from the test date. Please note that candidates will be sent only one copy of the Test Report Form.

      You can also view your results online on the afternoon of the 13th day after the test. The system will not display results older than 28 days after the test.

  • How is the overall band score calculated?
    • Overall Band Scores and individual module scores are reported in whole bands or half bands. Each of the module score is equally weighted. The Overall Band Score is calculated by taking the mean of the total of the four individual test scores.

  • How long is the result valid?
    • The IELTS test partners recommend that receiving organisations do not accept a TRF that is more than two years old. It is the decision of the receiving organisation, not the IELTS test partners, if they accept an older TRF. No letters or references endorsing a candidate's level of English will be provided.

  • Can I have more than one copy of the IELTS Test Report Form (TRF)?
    • No. Only one copy of the TRF is sent to the IELTS candidate.

  • Can I send my IELTS results to institutions after the test??
    • Yes. You can also apply for further copies of the Test Report Form for a period of two years from the test date.

      Within two months of the test date, you can have five complimentary copies of your Test Report Form sent to the institutions you provided on your Application Form. If you have not already provided the information on your application form, please use your user account to login to our online system to perform the task under "Request Test Report".

      The application/request of sending additional Test Report Form will be processed within 3 working days. Please check "Request Test Report" for updated status.

      After two months, each extra test report requested is charged at SGD21 (registered mail) and SGD71 (overseas courier service).

  • Can I request another Test Report Form (TRF) if I've lost mine?
    • NO. Only one copy of the TRF is sent to the IELTS candidate. Our centre offers to send further copies of Test Report Form on behalf of the candidate to the institutions.

  • What can I do if I am unhappy with my results?
    • You may apply for an enquiry on results (EOR) within six weeks of the test date. The fee is SGD185. Your test material is forwarded to the UK for re-marking. It takes eight weeks from receipt of the candidate's exam materials in the UK before you are notified of the re-mark results. After re-marking, should the score on any module be increased, the re-marking fee is refunded.

  • Can I retake the test?
    • Yes, you may take the test as many times as you wish.
